Description

The project funded by the Government of Ireland Human Capital Investment (HCI) Pillar, provides rapid design, development and deployment of education and training programmes to construction workers and professionals using a wide variety of on-line, blended and face to face approaches. It will focus on provision of programmes which are flexible and responsive to the needs of the building sector.

Aim

DASBE will be the hub for providing upskilling, capacity building and education to the building sector.

Target Groups:

To everyone in the construction industry and educational supports.

Outcomes

Impacts/Outcomes 1:
Provide a Digital Platform to enable learners to undertake programmes ranging from micro-accreditation (including digital badges), special purpose awards (Certificates), and minor and major awards focusing on specific topics and requirements in the sector.
Impacts/Outcomes 2:
Provide programmes from Level 6 to Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications.
Impacts/Outcomes 3:
Enable partners to collaborate on the provision of innovative and integrated programmes, building on best practice from across their organisations.
Impacts/Outcomes 4:
To build on partner’s previous work, utilise capacity and synergies between past and ongoing research work.
Impacts/Outcomes 5:
Enable access to international research drawn from DASBE network of international collaborators e.g. European Heat Pump Association, World Green Building Council – European Regional Network.

Policy/Initiative

Skills Gaps:
To remove skills gaps in the fields of energy efficiency, circular economy and digitalization by providing upskilling opportunities and ways for career progression
Mis-Matching of Skills:
Encourage workers and professionals who left the industry or have expertise in the fields to take up a career in construction
Skills Shortages:
To encourage school leavers and young professionals to take up a new career to support traditional apprentices with digital, technological or innovative professions and reduce shortages in industry.

Recommendations

Training:
Provide training programmes at EQF levels 5-8 in energy efficiency, circular economy and digitalisation.
Career Moves:
Complete full time learning and upskilling with minor or major awards. Complete special purpose awards (SPAs) and micro credentials whilst active in the industry as a part-time option to further improve career progression
Mobility:
Although many programmes are set in Ireland, TUS along with EUREC have developed programmes tobe completed in a number of countries, permitting tranferrability of credentials.
Entrepreneurship Opportunities:
Opportunities to upskill staff in SMEs to keep them updated and competitive within the industry.
Transfer in Europe:
Knowledge is transferred in many ways, through social networks, promotional videos and the website/platform DASBE.ie
