From 21 to 23 April, the 31st International Fair for Construction, Energy, Utilities and Crafts took place in Gornja Radgona, Slovenia. MEGRA fair brings together suppliers of craft products and services, as well as manufacturers of materials and equipment, with domestic and foreign investors. It promotes sustainable construction, renovation, plumbing and energy saving. The Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia organised an all day event with presentation on construction professions.
We were introduced to secondary and higher education, as well as to college and university programmes related to the construction sector.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Ljubljana gave a presentation on their programmes. We learned about research opportunities in construction and the importance of civil engineering. To get a better idea of how big projects in civil engineering work, we learnt about the construction of the 2nd railway line between Divača and Koper.
Almost 500 primary school pupils, who are facing one of the most important decisions of their lives – the decision on their career path – were introduced to all the educational institutions in Slovenia involved in construction, to the largest Slovenian construction companies, to the variety of careers in construction and to the wide range of job opportunities. They also learnt about the latest digital technologies that are making their way into the construction sector at an ever-increasing pace and are very attractive to the younger generation.
On March 10th, 2023 the Educational day was held again at this year’s edition of the Construction fair, making this event a tradition. It was just as successful as the previous year!
