Course Access: Lifetime
Course Overview

The construction industry has been fast evolving with digital technologies, however, digitalisation is not a very recent phenomenon. The conceptual underpinnings of BIM systems date back to the early days of computers. The timeline of digitalisation in this unit presents the evolution of this process.

This learning unit introduces the learner into digitalisation of construction, specifically -Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodology and project management using digital tools. The unit aims to equip learners with an understanding of basics and fundamentals behind Building Information Modelling system, including relevant software and digital tools.

The unit starts with an introduction to Building Information Modelling (BIM) by describing the concept, giving relevant definitions, alongside the benefits of using BIM in the construction industry. The learning material describes the building lifecycle in BIM and the levels of maturity in more detail.

Progressing through the unit you will learn about the implementation of BIM and how BIM is used in project management, including future prospects. The final lesson of this unit addresses other digital tools used in the construction industry. The unit consists of 4 lessons with theoretical content and key takeouts at the end of each lesson to underpin the knowledge and skills.
